Gakusei corresponds to the first level of value. It means “to be born into study”. The gakusei is the one who, having just been roughly shaped by the initial learning of junomichi, turns towards an autonomous search.Relying less and less on the teacher, the gakusei is called to take upon themselves the demands of practice. For them, the study of junomichi truly begins. |

弟子 Younger brother / child
The deshi is the younger brother of the more advanced practitioners. Their understanding becomes clearer and more global: they begin to perceive the different tasks implied by practice.Capable of teaching those ranked below them, they may occasionally replace their teacher and are called to present themselves for the junomichi teaching examination. |

Hon Deshi — Confirmed apprentice —
本弟子 True / younger brother / child
The hon deshi is a confirmed practitioner who possesses an extended knowledge of the different exercises. They may assist renshi and shihan in the classes or seminars they lead.In these situations, the hon deshi particularly demonstrates their qualities as Uke: they possess sufficient control of their body to integrate the directions of all the techniques. Their value becomes visible. |

Renshi — Expert —
錬士 Practice / scholar
Renshi is the level of value at which concern for gestures and technical reference points gives way to unity, to a certain form of the body. This assurance allows more precise work on the principles through the different exercises offered by junomichi.Renshi is the moment in the practitioner’s evolution when the capacity to transmit through teaching becomes established. In the Japanese language, renshi is literally a warrior polished and sharpened by practice. |

Hon Renshi — Confirmed expert —
本錬士 True / practice / scholar
The hon renshi is a recognised expert, engaged in the intensification of their practice of non-opposition, encompass, decision, control and mobility. One of the instruments of this search is the koshiki no kata.The hon renshi is a rock on which practitioners more advanced than them rely in order to move forward in their search, which is that of junomichi itself. |

Kyôshi — Professor —
教師 Teaching / professor, exemplary person
A junomichika is recognised as kyôshi once they have succeeded in freeing themselves from the technical appearances of the work. From that point, they seek to find a personal form for their actions and their teaching.Kyôshi is a decisive stage in the path of a junomichika. This stage is marked by the occasional wearing, during ceremonies, of a red-and-white striped belt. |

Hon Kyôshi — Confirmed professor —
本教師 True / teaching / professor, exemplary person
Going a little further still in the affirmation of the principles of junomichi, the hon kyôshi is invited to lead seminars or exceptional classes in dojos other than their own, in order to show the originality of their form and the singular value of their junomichi.

Having tightened and refined their practice, having integrated the principles into their body, the hanshi possesses the capacity to teach professors. They are entrusted with leading important seminars, and often with the technical direction of the practice.They are now, in the eyes of all, a model, an inspiration for all practitioners. |

師範 Exemplary person / example, model
Shihan enters into a form of interiority to practice, characterised by spontaneity and intuition. They carry junomichi in the present, open its paths, and dispose the practice for themselves and for others.

Hontô no Shihan — True master —
本当の師範 True / just / of / exemplary person / example, model
Hontô no shihan speaks, thinks, acts and creates permanently from within junomichi, without distance or delay. Through them, the practice, indifferent to circumstances, unfolds according to its own demands.Junomichi knew the hontô no shihan Igor Correa: a personality, a person through whom junomichi existed and was fully expressed. |
